Asset Pricing

Math and Logic

Mathematics is an invention or discovery ? Bill Thurston, a famous topologist from Berkeley , said that a mathematician is one who helps in the human understanding of mathematics, he endorsing the view that mathematics is divine and that it resides entirely in the human mind. All the same, we know that mathematicians conceived of black holes long before physicists actually found them, even when certain important problems in mathematics – and, more importantly, their solutions – belonging to the so-called low-dimensional topology were motivated by certain considerations arising in theoretical physics! This dual nature of mathematics combining in itself elements of art and science is singularly unique to the practice of mathematics .....

My School Visit

Last week , i got chance to visit few primary schools. Teachers need considerable time for training, support to help them to rethink their teaching practice, their discipline, their students' need and capacities to impart with real-world approach.Teachers said that several factors inhibited them from teaching included time for planning; students’ reading abilities; time for professional development, mid day meal plan and lot of other government works..

Math Education

We often treat student 's learning problems lightly as if they did not matter. We also know that not all student do not attack mathematics or any other subject with the same energy and enthusiasm. Pupils should not only be exposed to the structure of mathematics but also the historical and cultural aspects. Some knowledge of ethno-mathematics such as stories and games should be introduced whenever... it is necessary to make the lesson more interesting. Some pupils are interested in theoretical mathematics whereas others, probably the majority, are motivated by a historical approach. Still others are excited by the relationships between mathematics and art, mathematics and music or mathematics and language. Moreover, application of mathematics interests many pupils. We have heard much about mathematics anxiety, described as reluctance and fear to engage in mathematics- related activities. Individuals who exhibit such anxiety do not enjoy doing mathematics, especially in public. Most individuals with mathematics anxiety are beyond school level. We hear them proclaiming, for example, "I was very good in mathematics when I was in standard 8th. However, things have changed now .They find themselves learning certain mathematical ideas they are not ready because they fail to see their immediate application. As a result, some pupils and students begin to dislike mathematics and stop doing mathematics. Success in any subject in class depends on hard work, teachers' ability to deliver lessons and good grooming of the parents.

Indian agriculture..Present perspective

The purchasing power of the rural population throwing enormous demand for goods and services and boosting the national economy tremendously. But Darling's statement (1925), that "the Indian peasant is born in debt, lives in debt and beque...aths debt," still remains true for the great majority of working households in the countryside. Rural households need credit for a variety of reasons. They need it to meet short-term requirements for working capital and for long-term investment in agriculture and other income-bearing activities. Agricultural and non-agricultural activity in rural areas are typically seasonal, and households need credit to smooth out seasonal fluctuations in earnings and expenditure. That is the reason of quitting agriculture among young genration though is observed around the country.Agriculture, with its large dependent population in villages has to thrive and flourish, in order to secure rural prosperity by enhance in productivity,Strengthening forward and backward linkages ,Encouraging emergence of a market mechanism ,watershed development.

Why we need Prime Numbers...

Prime numbers have intrigued curious thinkers for centuries. On one hand, prime numbers seem to be randomly distributed among the natural numbers with no other law than that of chance. But on the other hand, the global distribution of prime...s reveals a remarkably smooth regularity. This combination of randomness and regularity has motivated researchers to search for patterns in the distribution of primes that may eventually shed light on their ultimate nature.it is not a matter of whether we need prime numbers or not. Since they exist, what are we going to do with them - if anything? Why do we need mountains? Since they exist why not climb them? But perhaps the best reason to study primes is that they are simultaneously elementary and mysterious. It's remarkable just how little we know about these numbers after pondering them for millennia. For many mathematicians, that alone is sufficient motivation. There are thousands of pattern in prime,..one of them whom i like is..The prime number 73,939,133 has a very strange property. If you keep removing a digit from the right hand end of the number, each of the remaining numbers is also prime. It's the largest number known with this property.
Take a look: 73,939,133 and 73,939,13 and 73,939,1 and 73,939 and 7,393 and 739 and 73 and 7 are all prime number....

GATE 2012....

GATE 2012 has become all the more interesting now - GATE 2012 score can now be used for two purposes:1 For PG study admission in more than 300 engineering colleges in India. 2. For getting that lucrative job in IOCL and other public sectors companies. Prior to GATE 2009, there were 85 questions for 150 marks. In GATE 2009, there were 60 questions for 100 marks. Since from GATE 2010, there are now 65 questions for 100 marks. books for GATE Computer Science according to your area of weakness: 1.Higher Engineering Mathematics by B.S. Grewal 2.Introductory methods of numerical analysis By S.S. Sastry 3.Graph theory with applications to engineering and computer science by Narsingh Deo 4.Formal Language and Automata Theory by J.D.Ullman5.Analysis of Algorithms and Computational Complexity by Horowitz and Sahani 6.Digital Logic by Morris Mano7.
