Kerala School of Mathematics

Chief Minister of Kerla will inaugurate the Kerala School of Mathematics on the premises of the Centre for Water Resources Development and Management (CWRDM) at Kunnamangalam on June 3.The school, promoted as a joint venture of the National Board of Higher Mathematics of the Department of Atomic Energy and the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE). Kozhikode also have Indian Institute of ManagementKozhikode (IIM-K) and the National Institute of Technology Calicut (NIT-C). Another research institute in the district is the Indian Institute of Spices Research.This is the second such institution in the country, the first being in Mumbai. The institute would be developed into an Indian Institute of Mathematical Sciences in due course. Kerala was known the home of mathematical research during the medieval period. There was a school of mathematics in Malabar with its activities centred in Thrikandiyoor, Alathiyoor and nearby places. The mathematicians associated with this school included Madhava of Sangamagrama, Parameswara of Alathiyoor, Neelakantha Somayaji, Jyethadeva and Achyutha Pisharody.
