IIT-ORISSA

Orissa Govt. select Banki in cuttack district a place to set up IIT in the State. The decision to this effect was taken in a high lavel meeting chaired by Industries Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan.IIT Orissa would be set up up in an area between Dampada and Talabasta road near BankiGovernment has also identified 1,200 acres of land near Banki.Govt has also decided to provide the campus of College of Engineering and Technology (CET), Bhubaneswar, to start classes of IIT from the current academic year it self before shifting to its own building at Banki.It may be noted that earlier Centre had ask Orissa govt to find a place which should be located closer to the Airport, National Highways and Railway station.IIT, Kharagpur would act as the mentor for IIT Orissa.IIT, Kharagpur would admit 40 students in each of the three streams ,civil mechanical and electrical — for the 2008-09 academic session.About 70,000 sqft of covered space is required for first year classes and laboratories in Orissa. Second year onwards, it would need 1,50,000sqft of space.
